Feb. 8, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China's sales of passenger cars, including minibuses, amounted to 1.17 million units in January this year, down 16.5% from 1.40 million units in the same month of 2011, due to the Lunar New Year holidays, according to statistics released by the National Passenger Car Market Information Joint Committee.
The sales passenger car last month reflected a month-on-month decline of 17.6%.
Last month, the sales of minibuses experienced the largest decline of 24.2%, reaching 189,781. The sales of MPVs fell 22.0% year on year to 39,541 units, and the sales of sedans decreased 15.3% year on year to 814,832 units. The sales of SUVs dropped 9.5% year on year to 127,535 units.
The top four passenger car sellers in China in January were Shanghai
General Motors Co Ltd, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, Shanghai
Volkswagen Automotive Co Ltd and FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co, which sales (including exports) were 127,443 units, 110,688 units, 110,008 units and 73,118 million units, respectively.
The country' passenger cars output in January 2012 fell 23.7% year on year to 1.07 million units.
