Uni-President Enterprise starts US$105.6 mln-plant in Suzhou

Feb. 1, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Uni-President Enterprises Corp, the Taiwan-based food and beverage production giant, on January 30 kicked off construction on a new plant in Kunshan, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province with a total investment of US$105.6 million.

The move is to expand its output capacity in mainland China, said the Taiwanese company. Uni-President began to build facilities in Kunshan in 1993 to principally produce beverages and instant noodles.

Lo Chih-Hsien, Chairman of Uni-President China Holdings Ltd<0220>, the mainland unit of Uni-President Enterprises Corp, said in early 2010 that the company will spend RMB 1 billion on output expansion in the next two and half years, to compete against its biggest rival Master Kong, owned by Taiwan-based Tingyi (Cayman Islands) Holding Corp<0322>.

In October 2010, Uni-President announced plans to start a US$43 million of beverage project in Suixi County, Guangdong Province and invest US$100 million to launch a unit in Jinan, Shandong Province last August, sources reported.
