China's online video market doubles in 2011

Jan. 31, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China saw the online video market accumulate around RMB 6.3 billion in 2011, reflecting a year-on-year jump of 99.9%, according to statistics released by iResearch, a Chinese internet research company.

In 2010, the country's online video market surged 78.1% from RMB 1.8 billion to RMB 3.1 billion.

The research firm also estimated that the market size of China's online video sector would soar 101.5% to RMB 12.6 billion in 2012, increase 41.8% to RMB 17.9 billion in 2013 and grow 25.6% to RMB 22.5 billion in 2014.  

Advertising revenue of online video advertising totaled RMB 4.2 billion in China last year, reflecting a year-on-year jump of 98.1%. The advertising revenue is expected to jump 114.9% to RMB 9.1 billion in 2012, increase 39.2% to RMB 12.7 billion in 2013 and grow 27.5% to RMB 16.2 billion in 2014.

In 2011, China's online advertising revenue accounted for 67.8% of the total revenue derived from online video industry, and the proportion is estimated to reach 72.3% in 2012, 71% in 2013 and 72% in 2014.

Proportion of copyrights distribution revenue, which stood at 13.1% in 2011, is likely to increase to 14.3% in 2012, 16.8% in 2013 and slightly decline to 16.4% in 2014, boosted by protection of the intellectual properties.
