Chinese-branded sedan sales dominate market in 2011

Jan. 25, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China saw sedan sales under its domestic brand total 2.95 million units last year, representing a year-on-year climb of 0.46% or accounting for 29.11% of the total sedan sales in the country, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, or CAAM.

The proportion, however, was 1.78 percentage points lower than in 2010.

In 2011, China saw 2.19 million Japanese brand sedans being sold, with a market share of 21.61% in China, while sedan sales reached 2.16 million units under the German brands, accounting for 21.28% of the total sedan sales in China.

The U.S.-branded sedan sales in China accounted for 15.03% of the total to 1.52 million units last year, while sedan sales under the South Korean brand reached 909,000 units with a market share of 8.98%. French-branded sedan sales in China accounted for 3.99% of the total to 404,100 units in 2011.

In December alone, sedan sales under the Chinese brands accounted for 29.65% of the total sedan sales in the country, down 10.49% year on year but up 5.47% month on month.

China's SUV sales under the its domestic brands totaled 75,478 units last month, dominating the country's SUV market with a share of 43.54%, followed by the Japanese-branded SUV sales of 58,132 units, the South Korean-branded SUV sales of 26,599 units and the German-branded SUV sales of 13,153 units, sources reported.
