CIC buys 8.68% stake in Thames Water

Jan. 20, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China Investment Corp, China's sovereign wealth fund, said today that it bought a 8.68% stake in the U.K.-based utility Thames Water.

The fund said in a statement published on its website that the purchase was made through one of its fully-owned subsidiaries. However, it did not identify the subsidiary.

CIC is set to acquire up to a 10% stake in Kemble Water, the holding company that owns Thames Water, said one source familiar with the matter, reported yesterday.

Thames Water each day supplies 2,600 million litres of tap water to 8.8 million customers across London and the Thames Valley and treats more than 4 billion litres of sewage for 14 million customers.
