Beijing's GDP up 8.1% in 2011

Jan. 20, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Beijing, China's capital city, saw its gross domestic product grow 8.1% year on year to RMB 1.6 trillion in 2011, said the Beijing Statistics Bureau yesterday.

RMB 13.62 billion of the GDP was generated by the primary sector, 0.9% more than in 2010. RMB 374.44 billion and RMB 1.21 trillion were generated in the secondary sector and the tertiary sector, 6.6% and 8.6% more than in 2010, respectively.

Last year, the city's fixed-asset investment increased 13.3% year on year to RMB 591.06 billion, including RMB 75.19 billion investments in the industrial sector, 46.7% more than in 2010.

Beijing's retail sales swelled 10.8% year on year to RMB 690.03 billion in 2011, and its foreign trade surged 29.1% year on year to US$389.49 billion, including US$330.47 billion in import value, 34.2% more than in 2010.

The city's fiscal revenue last year rose 27.7% year on year to RMB 300.63 billion, driven by a 33.3% growth in corporate income tax and a 25.3% increase in business tax.
