Jan. 16, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's largest natural rubber importer, imported 210,000 metric tons of the material in December last year, 17% more than that in the same period of 2010, according to the latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs
The December imports were 12.5% less than that in November.
In the whole of 2011, China's natural rubber imports grew 13% year on year to 2.1 million metric tons, and the import value totaled US$9.38 billion, reflecting a surge of 65.5% year on year, due to a significant increase in natural rubber prices.
Last month, the country imported 135,539 metric tons of synthetic rubber. In 2011, China's synthetic rubber import volume totaled 1.44 metric tons, down 7.7% year on year, with import value rising 25.5% from the previous year to US$4.27 billion.
