Jan. 11, 2012 (China Knowledge) - China, the world's largest iron ore importer and steel maker, saw its iron ore import rise 10.3% year on year to 64.09 million metric tons in December last year, according to latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs
The iron ore import last month reflected a 0.2% decline from November.
In the whole of 2011, the country's iron ore import amounted to 690 million metric tons, up 10.9% year on year.
The average import price of iron ore surged 27.1% year on year to US$163.8 per metric ton last year
The country exports 48.88 million metric tons of steel products in 2011, 14.9% more than that in the previous two years, and saw its imports of steel products fall 5.2% to 15.58 million metric tons in the corresponding year.
