GM China sales up 8.3% in 2011

Jan. 10, 2012 (China Knowledge) - U.S.-based auto giant General Motors Corp and its China joint ventures sold a total of 2.55 million vehicles last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 8.3%, said the automaker in a statement.

Last month, GM saw its China sales rise 9.8% year on year to 196,797 units, the highest level ever recorded in December.

Shanghai General Motors Co Ltd, the joint venture between GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, sold 1.20 million cars last year, up 16.2% year on year, due to the boost by strong growth in sales of Buick and Cadillac vehicles.

GM's three-way joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co Ltd saw its sales of mini-vans and passenger cars grow 4.8% year on year to 1.29 million units last year.

FAW-GM, the joint venture between GM and FAW Group, delivered 56,132 vehicles last year.
