Toyota to increase 2012 China sales to 1 mln vehicles

Jan. 9, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corp has said that it aims to sell more than 1 million vehicles in mainland China this year, reflecting a growth of more than 10% from 2011.

The company sold 883,000 vehicles in mainland China last year, 4% more than that in 2010, despite the shortage of supply parts caused by the devastating March earthquake in Japan and floods in Thailand.

Toyota Motor saw its sales in Greater China, including Hong Kong and Macau, total 895,000 units in 2011, slightly lower than its target of 900,000 units.

Toyota Motor runs two Chinese joint ventures with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co Ltd<2238> and China's FAW Group.

Dongfeng Nissan earlier also set a target to sell over 1 million vehicles this year.
