saw the combined passenger throughput in Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport reach record 74.56 million in 2011, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 3.73%, sources reported.
The increase of passenger throughput, including 22 million in the international market, was principally boosted by steady economic growth in Shanghai
and the Yangtze River Delta, said analysts.
Last year, the passenger throughput of Shanghai Pudong International Airport stood at 41.44 million and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport amounted to 33.12 million.
Shanghai's cargo and mail throughput totaled 3.56 million tons in 2011, consisting of 3.11 million tons in Shanghai Pudong International Airport and 453,600 tons in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
The two airports opened combined 11 domestic and international flights last year, including direct routes to Mauritius, Maldives and Teheran.
