China's forestry sector's gross output up 24.1% in 2011

Jan. 4, 2012 (China Knowledge) - The gross output of China's forestry industry jumped 24.1% year on year to RMB 2.83 trillion in 2011, said Jia Zhibang, Head of the State Forestry Administration, last Thursday.

The country's wood-based panels output rose 7.7% year on year to 165 million cubic meters this year, and its output of wood and bamboo flooring climbed 2.2% year on year to 490 million cubic meters, said Jia at a press conference.

The country saw its forestry imports and exports increase 23.6% from the previous year to US$116 billion.

Meanwhile, the industry's emerging sectors also experienced fast growth. The output value of forest tourism reached RMB 240 billion this year, reflecting an increase of more than 10%.
