May. 25, 2012 (China Knowledge) - Macau saw the number of visitor arrivals for April increase 1.9% YoY to 2.38 million, 52.8% or 1.26 million of which were same-day visitors, according to statistics released by the Statistics and Census Service of the Macau SAR Government.

The number of visitor arrivals from mainland China was 1.39 million, up 9.5% YoY or accounting for 58.4% of the total. Most of the mainland visitors were from Guangdong Province, Fujian Province and Zhejiang Province. Visitors traveling to the special administrative region under the Individual Visit Scheme grew 9.3% YoY to 541,551.
 
Last month, visitor arrivals from Hong Kong fell 7.7% YoY to 654,803 and from Taiwan dropped 22.4% YoY to 85,718 in April. Macau also received 28,972 visitors from Philippines and 28,119 from South Korea, 20.0% and 8.7% more than in the same month of 2011. Long-haul visitors from the Americas and Europe reached 29,460 and 24,786, respectively.

In the first four months, the region's number of visitor arrivals totaled 9.32 million, 6.3% more than in the corresponding period of 2011, and same-day visitor number reached 5.03 million, accounting for 54.0% of the total.

Of the total visitor arrivals, around 5.62 million from Mainland China and 2.38 million from Hong Kong.
