China is expected to overtake Japan as the world's largest consumer of IT products and services in the Asia Pacific soon, according to the latest report released by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
China's IT consumption is estimated to increase to US$173 billion in 2013, 4% more than that of Japan, due to rising consumer demand and government support for the sector, said the report.
This year, the country's personal consumption of IT products will jump 29.8% YoY, boosted by the popularity of intelligent terminals like the latest mobile phones and tablet PCs, according to Wu Lianfeng, assistant vice president of IDC China.
Huo Jinjie, general manager of IDC China, added that the there would be more opportunities in the IT market in the next five years as the central government will promote the country's informatization level and continue to support the development of E-commerce.
