>, the country's second-largest commercial airline, recently posted a year-on-year increase of 14.7% in monthly passenger volume in May.
The country's flagship carrier said it carried 3.06 million passengers last month and a total of 15.8 million passengers in the first five months of 2009, representing a rise of 13.7% on year.
Cargo volume went down 8.6% from a year earlier to 71,822 tons in May. The carrier also carried 336,855 tons of cargo in the first five months of this year, a drop of 10.8%.
Air China's overall load factor went down 4 percentage points to 62.2%. Its passenger load factor dropped 0.1 percentage point to stand at 71.2%, and its cargo load factor decreased 9.5 percentage points to 50.8%.
The airline earlier said it first-quarter net profit hit RMB 981 million and that its fuel-hedging losses were RMB 989 million.
