(China Knowledge) - Last week, the global spotlight was on the Beijing
Economic-Technological Development Area (E-Town) where international
intelligent manufacturing (IM) scientists, laboratories and leading enterprises
gathered for the 2016 World Robot Conference to discuss the technological
advancement and industrial applications of intelligent robots.
The event was held at the Beijing E-Town International Conference
Center, which used to site China's largest printing machinery manufacturer
known as BeiRen Group. After upgrading works, it has been transformed into a
world-class technological conference center equipped with state-of-the-art
facilities. It will serve as the official venue for all subsequent World Robot
The event showcased the increasing application of robots in
manufacturing and service industries within China and across the globe, and
explored the future development trends of the robot industry.
Currently, there are more than 100 IM and robotics companies in Beijing
E-Town that cover different key areas within the industry. This includes
industrial robots, service robots, specialized robots, core components and IM
experimental research platforms. Along with leading firms like HIT, Yasukawa
and Robot4U, these companies have formed the main cluster of the robot industry.
"We seek to build an IM innovative center that integrates the
entire supply chain of showcasing, research and transformation," said Wang
Hesheng, Vice Deputy Director of Beijing E-town’s management committee.
Meanwhile, Beijing E-Town is investing RMB 100 million every year to
foster innovation in emerging industries like new energy, biomedical and
integrated circuits. It is also working to improve the financing ecosystem for
these companies to attract investments from angel investors, venture
capitalists, private investors and further growth through mergers and
acquisitions. It seeks to merge innovation and entrepreneurship to improve
technology within firms in emerging industries like IM, integrated circuits,
new displays, biopharmaceuticals, and industrial internet so as to guarantee
its continuation as a site for high quality precise technology.
Efforts in industrial innovation paid off as value-added output of
industrial companies within the park grew 8% YoY in H1 2016, and profitability
hit 9.9%, both surpassing Beijing’s and national industry average. From January
to September this year, profits from Beijing E-Town's industrial companies
above designated size achieved a 27.1% YoY growth rate to reach RMB 21.59
