Shanghai Songjiang Industrial Zone (Shanghai Songjiang IZ) consists of Songjiang Pilot Industrial Zone, the Shihudang Sub-zone of Songjiang IZ and Liantang Green Industrial Zone. Set up in 1992, Shanghai Songjiang IZ was the first industrial zone to be set up in Shanghai, and was approved by the Shanghai municipal government as a municipal-level development zone in 2006.

Shanghai Songjiang IZ, located in Songjiang District in the southwestern part of Shanghai, enjoys convenient access to transportation. The zone is merely 20 minutes from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and 45 minutes from Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, the Jiajin Expressway and the Tongsan Expressway run through the zone, connecting Shanghai with Hangzhou, Jiading, Sanya and Tongjiang. The zone is within a 45-minute drive of Shanghai Port, which was the largest port in China by container traffic in 2012.

Songjiang University Town is close to Shanghai Songjiang IZ. Songjiang University Town comprises Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, and Shanghai Institute of Visual Art of Fudan University.

Investment Climate
Major industries in Shanghai Songjiang IZ include electronic information, machinery, fine chemicals, food and beverage processing, new materials and biopharmaceuticals. In 2012, the gross industrial output from the zone exceeded RMB 330.7 billion, down 5.9% year on year.

By the end of 2012, a total of 1,048 foreign-invested projects had been set up in the zone. In 2012, 39 new foreign-funded projects had been launched, and the contracted FDI had amounted to US$630.6 million. Over 40 Fortune 500 enterprises have commenced business in the zone, including Dow Corning, ABB and Nestle. In 2013, the foreign trade value hit US$45.15 billion, gross industrial output value hit RMB 234 billion.
