Shanghai Xinzhuang Industrial Zone (Shanghai Xinzhuang IZ), consisting of Shanghai Xinzhuang Industrial Park and Shanghai Xiangyang Industrial Park, was established in 1995 as a municipal-level industrial zone with the approval from the Shanghai municipal government. It covers an area of 17.88 sq km.

The Shanghai Xinzhuang IZ, located in Minhang District of Shanghai, is easily accessible. Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which was the largest airport in China by cargo traffic in 2013, is 12 km from the park, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is within 30 minutes’ drive. Shanghai Port, which was the largest port in China by container traffic in 2013, is within 6 km. The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, State Highway 312, State Highway 318 and State Highway 320 are located nearby.

There are 26 colleges and research institutions in Minhang District. They supply a large number of skilled workers every year. Shanghai itself is an educational hub in China.

Investment Climate
Shanghai Xinzhuang IZ earned an ISO-14001 certificate for environmental management systems and an OHSAS-18001 certificate in the Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series in 2001. It also obtained an ISO-9001 quality management system certificate in 2002.

In 2013, the gross industrial output of Shanghai Xinzhuang IZ exceeded RMB 85.08 billion. The major industries in the park are the telecom equipment manufacturing, machinery and chemical industries. The total contracted FDI in the zone has surpassed US$ 215 million in 2013. 46 Fortune 500 enterprises have invested in the Shanghai Xinzhuang IZ.

Major investors include Degussa (China) Investment, ST&S, Rhodia and Shanghai ALSTOM Transport Electrical Equipment. Deguassa, a top special chemical producer, invested over RMB 100 million in a research unit in the zone in 2005. It invested another RMB 200 million in the unit in 2007.
