Shanghai Caohejing Export-Processing Zone (Shanghai Caohejing EPZ) was approved as a state-level export-processing zone by the State of Council in 1992. It is the third export-processing zone in Shanghai. Shanghai Caohejing EPZ is located in Caohejing High-tech Park, which is one of the development zones in mainland China that enjoys preferential policies granted to both economic and technological development zones and high-tech industrial development zones.

Shanghai Caohejing EPZ lies in the southwestern part of Shanghai, spanning Xuhui District and Minhang District. It is located less than ten minutes from downtown, the South Railway Station of Shanghai, and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. It takes a mere 40 minutes to get from the zone to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which was the busiest airport in China in terms of cargo throughput in 2012. Shanghai Port, also nearby, is the largest port in China in terms of container traffic in 2012.

There are 20 universities and over 120 scientific research institutions in Shanghai Caohejing High-tech Park, including the prominent Shanghai Jiaotong University.

In 2012, Shanghai Caohejing EPZ realized US$12.29 billion in foreign trade value, decreased 6.2% year on year, including US$9.85 billion in exports, down 4.8% year on year.

Inventec, an Information Technology company specializing in the design and manufacture of electronic products, has built one research center, one operations center and six factories in Shanghai Caohejing EPZ. Its total investment in these projects has exceeded US$434 million.

Autodesk Inc, a U.S.-based software company, in January 2008 inaugurated the Autodesk China Research & Development Center, its largest product development center outside its home country. The firm was created when Autodesk acquired Hanna Strategies Ltd in January 2008, and merged it with the former Autodesk China Application Development Center.
